PLYMOUTH, Minnesota — New Horizon Academy has been named a Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
Through its Breastfeeding-Friendly program, MDH recognizes workplaces that have demonstrated their commitment to supporting breastfeeding families by creating and maintaining a workplace lactation support program.
“We’re proud to be recognized as a Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace,” said New Horizon Academy CEO Chad Dunkley. “This designation is a testament to our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and family-friendly workplace at all New Horizon Academy schools.”
Breastfeeding is a foundational way to ensure that babies receive optimal nutrition during the first formative years of life. Studies show that infants who are breastfed have better health outcomes as they grow. MDH recognizes organizations that have taken a leadership role to improve breastfeeding rates and meet Healthy 2030 goals.
The designation acknowledges New Horizon Academy’s commitment to acting as a model for the community by supporting healthy families and receiving the business benefits of supporting breastfeeding employees. The designation is achieved by adopting a written policy and educating staff about it; ensuring adequate break time for breastfeeding employees; providing a clean, private place to pump breast milk; and demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting breastfeeding in the workplace.
MDH’s Breastfeeding-Friendly Recognition Program was created and is supported by the state Women, Infants and Children program (WIC) and the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP).

I live in Rosemount and have two kids that have both grown up attending New Horizon Academy. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Winona State University, and I have spent my career working at New Horizon Academy first as a preschool teacher, then as an assistant director, and now as a director. In my free time I enjoy gardening, house projects, and spending time with friends and family!

I love that our center is very neighborhood based. The children and families are able to walk and bike to school on nice days! They are also able to meet other families that live nearby and have the opportunity to build relationships that will continue into elementary school and beyond.

We made the switch to New Horizon Academy in Rosemount when we felt that our daughter’s other preschool was no longer a good fit for her. We couldn’t be more happy with our decision! The new facility is beautiful! From our first meeting with the director, we were sure that our experience was going to be amazing, as she was very knowledgeable in child development and the strategies that make a classroom successful. Our daughter loves New Horizon and we are so impressed with how much she is learning!
We recently moved our daughter from another daycare center to this new New Horizon Academy. From day one, our daughter has thrived in this new environment! She talks all night about all the fun things she did and the new friends she is making! My daughter loves the outdoor playgrounds, which have so much room for her to run and help burn off that excessive 3 year old energy. On colder and rainy days, they have the indoor playground where kids still get space and toys to run off that energy inside.
New Horizon Academy Rosemount is such a friendly daycare with great staffing! The directors are also really great and make sure you feel welcome and have everything you need. My son is in the infant room and loves it! I receive 4-8 photos a day, and they make sure to inform us what activities they are doing throughout the day. I definitely recommend the New Horizon Academy in Rosemount!
