PLYMOUTH, Minn. – (November 14, 2018) New Horizon Academy CFO, Penny Allen, was selected by the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal as a 2018 CFO of the Year Honoree.
Each year the Business Journal recognizes the Twin Cities’ top financial executives from companies large and small. These executives are evaluated by a panel of other financial leaders who score them on their contributions to their company and the community as well. This year, Penny was among more than 20 other prominent executives in the workforce to be honored with this elite award.
Penny has been with New Horizon Academy for 24 years now and she plays a very crucial role on the leadership team. Known at New Horizon as the “CFO with a heart,” Penny is very active in her support of charitable causes such as Children’s Minnesota and the Susan G. Komen foundation.

I have been the director at Boston Scientific Maple Grove since 2018. I first started as an infant teacher and moved up through the age groups, became an assistant director, and now director. I have two wonderful girls who are active in sports and love being outdoors! In our free time we love going to the cabin and going to hockey games! I am an Enneagram 3, active hockey mom of two girls, and an advocate for small humans!

What do you like about early childhood?
I love getting to see the learning growth in each and every child. Seeing little ones go from infants to pre-k and off to kindergarten, knowing that we helped make an impact, is incredibly rewarding!

I grew up in Maple Grove and currently live in Brooklyn Park with my husband and our three kids. I have loved early childhood education since I started working in a childcare center in high school. I love being outside and going on adventures. My favorite part of my job is building connections with teachers, children, and their families.

Our daughters have both attended the Maple Grove (Boston Scientific) New Horizon Academy, and we love that the daycare is onsite at our workplace! They host great family events that we can easily attend, and being able to see our kids at lunchtime has been one of the best parts. We love all the teachers and management team! Their communication is top-notch, and we never have to worry when our children are in their care.
We LOVE New Horizon Academy – Boston Scientific Maple Grove! Each day, we are greeted with a smile and warm welcome, and my kids are always excited to come to school. The facility is clean and well-organized, and all three of our kids have learned so much while being there. It’s great to see them in the hallways at Boston Scientific and have them nearby if they need anything quickly. I also love being able to nurse my baby onsite when needed. The teachers are amazing, and I trust every one of them!
I have had my daughter at the Boston Sci New Horizon Academy since January of 2024 and we have loved it here. The teachers are so friendly and helpful. They have listened to any worries I have had as a new parent. My daughter has grown so much and a huge part of that is thanks to the teachers here.
We love having our two children at New Horizon Academy! The teachers are always welcoming, and I feel confident leaving my kids in their care. My son has learned so much from all his teachers – I am blown away by the number of songs he comes home singing from school. I also love how much each and every teacher cares for my kids; I always know they are safe and well cared for at school.
