No matter what the weather, there is still plenty to do with your kiddos!
I live in Boise, Idaho, a climate of complete weather wonder. Meaning we WONDER if it will be cold or warm in the winter! Some winters, it is very cold, we have lots of snow, and we tend to hibernate. Other winters, like the present, we have had no snow, and it has felt like spring since Christmas! As a mommy of four, I am always facing questions like “What are we doing today?” or “I’m bored. I want to go outside!” Here are some of the ideas I use to keep my kids engaged regardless of weather:
- Make “snow cream,” otherwise known as ice cream. My friend told me about this one. How it works? You basically need condensed milk, vanilla, and snow! Guess what? It is actually very good! Click here to view the recipe!
- Everyone has a Mr. Potato Head or Mrs. Potato Head if you have kids, right? My twins came up with the great idea to take the pieces outside and stick them in snowballs instead. It was super cute and kept them busy for at least 20 minutes. I was hoping for longer, but 20 minutes is acceptable in the winter when it is cold and snowy outside.
- My youngest has been upset this year since we didn’t get snow. That meant no snowman building! Well, I put on my thinking cap and decided to make “sock snowmen.” So simple. All you need is an old sock, some beans for the filling, and some fabric to tie it off or use as a scarf. I gave her a sharpie to draw on the eyes, nose, and mouth. See above!
- Another idea I had to keep my kids busy even though we haven’t had any snow is to have them jump on the trampoline to get their energy out. I also gave them some chalk and told them to draw all the things they love about winter. A trampoline is similar to a chalkboard. The chalk comes right off!
Winter can give you the blues, but if you keep an open mind and don’t focus on the weather, there is plenty to do with your kiddos!
