Apple Taste Test Activity
Are you looking for a fun way to incorporate fall, senses, vocabulary, math, and science in one activity for the whole family? We have an activity for you that just so happens to be delicious as well, and that is the apple taste test! This activity is easy, plus the kids have no idea they are learning so much because of all the fun and eating. It does not get better!
First things first. Be sure you gather all your materials:
- Pencil/Pen
- Paper
- Five or more apples
- Honey crisp (majority favorite)
- Fuji
- Granny Smith
- McIntosh
- Red Delicious
Step One
Take one apple and cut it up in slices for everyone who is tasting and judging. It is important you cut the apples one at a time to keep them separated and fresh.
Step Two
Make a chart with your pencil/pen and paper to record the color, size, flavor, smell, and texture.
Step Three
Take turns tasting each variety of apple and document accordingly.
Step Four
To bring the math and science portion of this activity into play, create a chart from the tasting data and talk about which apple was the crowd-pleaser based on the data shown.
Be sure the leftover apples do not go to waste! If you have to keep them for the next snack time, squeeze a little lemon juice on them to keep the apple preserved. Have fun snacking on the apples!
